The birth of my TV pilot "Career Opportunities with Meredith Myers" was a simple one. I've had a lot of jobs - 75, if you were so bored from sending out resumes that you decided to spend the next five hours counting them. Why do I have so many jobs you ask? Opportunites. If there was a skill I didn't have, I wanted to learn it. A new adventure, then I had to be in on it. I guess I just took it to the extreme. How? Well, I love purses so to save money, I taught myself to sew and started my own purse business - boy did I lose money on that one! Or, I wanted to visit Hawaii, so I worked on a cruise ship everyday for five months - which was exhausting and pretty much like being back in high school with no chance for recess. Oh and I love books, so I spent thousands of dollars going to grad school to be a librarian - at least when I'm 60 this one will come in handy. And don't get me started on how I became a publicist for celebrities - that almost took my soul.
I can't help but think that I was naive. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Is it me? Is it them? Does it matter? If only I'd had a mentor to guide me or a career counselor that wasn't clueless - who knows how short my resume could have been with the proper insight and education! Reality TV is BS so you certainly can't count on that crap to show the truth of these careers, so I guess that's where this show comes in. Yes, job #76 - TV Show Creator! Only this show is full of the stuff that nobody wants to share or admit, especially me, a person voted 'Most Talented' of her high school class who graduated with honors (because I really do look like an idiot most of the time). But I'm going to do it anyway, because there is still hope for you to only have a two-page resume. This show is for those who want to see the truth in the various careers you may have an interest in pursuing long-term - the ups and downs, struggles or set backs, hard work, patience, but more importantly, all shown through adventure and fun, featuring interviews with big stars that owe me favors or who I begged to help me (the PR job really helped here).
It's my mission with "Career Opportunities with Meredith Myers" to one day find my perfect job, or at the least, my hope is that you will. Enjoy!
